Vegetable is a pedagogic installation which has for goal to increase the awareness to vegetables seasonality and allows participants to appropriate vegetables growing timetables.

The participants are invited to reconstitute a growth calendar, alone or by group, that implicates to identify several varieties of vegetables, their different growth stages, and to manage the watering according to water needs and weather informations. The growth calendar of eight vegetables is staged by diverting meal codes. Each guest is invited to grow his own meal, from the seed to the edible vegetable, following the given instructions. Vegetables growth time during the game is depending on selected variety but also on the attention payed to essential gardening gestures, water needs and climatic conditions. The installation consists of a long table and eight series of stacked illustrated plates; each serie corresponding to a vegetable’s variety and each plate to a growth stage of this same variety. The stack height varies according to vegetable growth time, the gap between two plates representing two weeks.

This installation can be reactivated by Racines carrées in other contexts.
